Joseph Bazalgette (1819-1891), head of the Metropolitan Commission of Sewers, London, established a legacy of modernized sanitation. The actions of Bazalgette led to the modernization of the London sewer system, created a standard for urban sanitation world wide, and left a legacy of a healthy modern city. His actions as an engineer led to a cleaner and more sanitized world.
